Kelar means city or a populated area and Kelardasht means a city built in a plain. Kelardasht; "Iran's pradise" is an area known nationally and internationally for its fine weather. It is one of the four spots on earth with the most pleasant climate. With a history which dates back to 4000 years, it is surrounded among high mountains and intact jungles. It is located 35 km south of the coasts of the Caspian Sea. This area attracts many visitors from different parts of the country and world.

Mountains, jungle, plain, lake, rivers, cascades, pleasant weather, hospitable people and some historical works and places are all gathered together in one single area. Kelardasht hosts about 2 million domestic visitors and 200000 foreign visitors every year. Interestingly, Kelardasht is one of those places in the world that boasts some elderly people who are past the age of 100.

Geographical location

Kelardasht has an area of 113 square meters. It is located 1250 meters above sea level and in 36, 29' latitude and 51, 6' longitude. The average annual temperature is +9.9, Maximum average is 32.1 and minimum average is -10.3. The average annual rainfall is about 450 mm.

Natural Attractions

Takht-e-Suleiman Mountains with millions-year-old natural glaciers and 58 peaks higher than 4000 meters are in the southwest of Kelardasht. The highest mountain among them is Alamkooh (the second highest mountain in Iran) with 4850 meters was first conquered by the British mountain climber and Surveyor "Douglas Basque" in 1933.Wall of Alamkooh is 800 meters high and 450 meters wide. It attracts many mountain climbers from all over the world.

·         Lake Valasht; 20 acres in area and 30 meters in depth is located at an altitude of 1050 meters above sea level.

·         Acapol Waterfall; across the beautiful river of Sardabrood west of roodbarak village

·         Garakpas  forest road

·         Malek-joob; preparation of Malek-joob is attributed to the era of Malekshah the Seljuk king.

·         This stream is separated from Sardabrood and reaches Birunbashm area across the jungle.

·         Tal-oo (bitter water) Spa in roodbarak and Vahed Spa in Vahed village

 

Historical & cultural Attractions

From the historical works of art and objects which were discovered in Kelardasht, it was understood that a part of this area was inhabited by people and owned its civilization around 4000 years ago. Apart from the pots, statues and bronze objects which were found during the archeological excavations, a small treasure (including 3 sets of golden dishes, a golden knife and some pots) was discovered in the midst of a construction project for the Royal palace in 1939. This precious collection is now kept in the Iranian National Museum under the title of Kelardasht Golden collection.

The most important tourist attractions in Kelardasht are:

The remains of kelar ancient hill (4000 years), the royal palace (in Ojabait Village), the half-built hotel from the time of Reza Shah Pahlavi (in Hassankif)
